Burky's Fundraising Page
This is an exciting time for Women's Rugby in Canada. The Seven's team silver medal performance at the Rugby World Cup Sevens and two championship wins at both the Under-20 Nations Cup and Senior Nations Cup with the Fifteen's team this past summer has shown that we are strong competitors at the international level. We are continuing to build our program to develop and win on the International stage. Rugby Canada is working with world class staff to help us prepare but there are many other costs associated with our path to continued successes such as these. Your contribution will help us compete for another championship at the Rugby World Cup 2014 in France. Thank you in advance for your support.
I have been playing rugby since 1997 when I proudly followed my older brother's (Chris Burk) footsteps and joined in the newly formed women's team at the Capilano Rugby Football Club in North Vancouver, BC. I competed with Carson Graham Secondary School and then on to Acadia University in Wolfville, NS. In 2004 and 2005, I was named MVP of the Atlantic University Conference (AUS) and named to the All-Canadian Team.
Upon my return to the West Coast I continued to play with Capilano and the BC Senior Women's Team while helping coach developing teams in the community. In 2009, I was selected to my first Senior Women's Team tour, CanAms in Denver CO, followed by a memorable first cap and first Canada win in 14 years against France. Today, I continue to train hard as I strive to represent my country, wear our maple leaf over my heart on the field and build the game for the next generation of players.
All of this has been possible because of the generous donations from clubs, provincial unions, family and many other individuals in the community. Words cannot express my gratitude for this support. Thank you for reading and for helping me make my dreams real.
